Hello I'm from Ardlethan NSW and my partner and I are new at prospecting. We have a minelab detector and a highbanker and we would love to learn to pan for gold. We are thinking of going to have lessons for panning at Mogo. We have been to Bendigo and spent a day learning our detector by Pete from Bendigo Gold. So now we are interested learning our highbanker and we.are thinking on going across to Tuena for a.week to try our luck there. We don't own a 4x4 so I hope I can get in there somewhere close to the creek.

Welcome to the forum paul66, You wont need a 4x4 at Tuena as you should be able to get access to the creek at various places up to about 30 or so metres from the water. Have you tried detecting at Mirool just out from Ariah Park. Rowdy

Thanks Rowdy. Where to detect at Mirrool I own a block of land there in the town 3 blocks up from the old Church. I've tried over Reefton but no luck there. I mainly go down to Paddy's Rangers in VICTORIA , we camp there and have a few Facebook friends turn up and have a great fire and a few laughs. We don't find that much to brag about. So that's why I want to give the highbanker a go. So have you gave Mirrool a swing. Thanks

Hi Paul66, I have never tried Mirool. When I was an apprentice in Temora back in the sixties a chap from where I worked used to go there. I drove through there a couple of years ago and I liked the look of the place as far as detecting goes but I didn't have my detector with me. These days I live only a couple of Ks from Paddy's Ranges in Vic, sadly most of Paddy's Ranges is off limits for prospecting. Rowdy

Hi Rowdy I was up the pub tonight and I spoke to a bloke, he told me his father in law does a bit of detecting on a few farms around the area. So I'll have to give my block a go. Do you think Mirrool creek would be worth trying with the highbanker. At Tuena is there a camp ground or do I have to camp at the caravan park there. I still need to learn how use a gold pan otherwise I'll only be wasting time. Is there any other creeks worth using my highbanker you know off around thanks Paul.

Just below the caravan park at Tuena there is a camping area. When I was last there about 6 or 7 years ago it was free camping in the unpowered sites there but $5 a night for the powered sites. This may have changed in the meantime. Mirool creek would most probably be worth trying, ask around at the local you may get more info. Rowdy

I had a look at the creek this morning and dug down to the bedrock. looks like a lot of black sand so ll take a lot of samples tomorrow the only the water is in this creek when its in flood. Do you think i should take samples from the top of the bank where the sand is. or just stick to the creek. i noticed the layers on the banks. There a bit if Quartz in the bank and shale. i found the lowest spot in the creek so ill try all around there. And also i found a spot for the detector 16 square kilometers are so ill let you know how that turns out. and its crown land so no dealing with farmers. thanks again
