Thanks Andy for a great 4 days.
What should have been a relaxing and enjoyable Easter break started off as a bit of a disaster. Got to Eldorado late Thursday arvo, set up camp and decided to boil the jug and have a coffee, Um, where's the gas bottle? Left it home, raced around every where to see if we could borrow a bottle, yep, plenty of people offered. Got back to the tent unpacked the cooker, placed the borrowed gas bottle, um, where's the connecting hose? Left it home. bugger. Have to go into Wangaratta and buy a new hose. Friday, being Good Friday, nothing will be open. Luckily the other campers at Eldorado are a very friendly group, food and coffee was offered from all over.
I was going to have lots of photo's to post of the trip, um, where's my camera, left it at home, bugger again.
Went up Reedy creek ready to do some high banking, pulled all the gear out of the truck, where's the high banker stand?, ummmm, left it home, double bugger. Made up a make shift stand from rocks and logs and got stuck into digging. That was scene for the rest of the 4 days.
Got a fair bit of gold, not sure exactly how much yet, need to do a final clean up. All the yella stuff was very fine, much like at Oallen. Found the digging much easier than Oallen though, much less large cobbles and a lot coarser sand.
Did manage to find one nice Gem, not sure what it is yet, it's clear with no visible flaws, about 20 carats, still has visible crystal faces and has a slightly greasy feel to it. I am going to take it to a gemologist friend and see if he can identify it for me.
We had intended to travel with some friends but they had to pull out of the trip at the last minute. That left me with a bit of a dilemma, all the prospecting gear was already packed in my truck and all the camping gear was to be in their truck. Unloaded the big motor/pump, unloaded the monster highbanker and re-packed the truck with the smaller gear. That was on Thursday morning and we were leaving at midday, so I suppose I have a bit of and excuse for forgetting half of the gear.
Easter is only just over and I can't wait until next year. Hopefully more members will be able to get there and make it a great member gathering.
Again, thanks Andy for a fantastic Easter break.
