Over the last few months I have been designing a new highbanker. I've been a bit slack (actually very slack ) & have had the hoppers cut out & standing in the garage for weeks. Well today I took them to the engineering shop in town & had them bent up, so now I can power along with the build.
You'll see the finished sluice in a few weeks after I take it out for it's first run, but here's a sneak peek at the unfinished bottom hopper as it is at the moment. Just needs the back wall & legs made.

Witch end is the end, Dose it become narrower or is that the way it looks in the picture. If it is tapered, is there advantages for a specific resin ? I look forward to seeing the next steep, Andy the utube you posted from maybe your last trip, your sluice looked to be doing a great job, the only thing missing was a stubby holder. If this one is going to be even better, I am watching with anticipation.

Lab. The end to the right facing away from the pump is where the tailings leave the hopper. Yes it is tapered, the idea being that the wash speeds up as it travels down the hopper & doesn't clog up the riffles. Another member of this forum has the same & it works, as I saw his in action at Easter. That's a tease photo Andy Makes me wonder what's to come That was the idea Ric.

Andy, it caught my attention, in theroy, it was all about as the water slowed it droped the heavy stuff. I like your thinking though, if the riffels are clear to catch the gold, it makes sence to speed the wash up. And you will be able to feed more in.

Looking forward to seeing the end product Andy. The river sluice I built on your specs works perfectly and I reckon this highbanker will too. Geat idea on the taper. Those Gold Hog rubber riffle mats are designed to increase the flow at the end to pull out the backwash, so there must be something to it...

The build is progressing, slowly. Been a hectic busy month doing other things at home & around town. I have the matting & bread crate in. Using bread crate instead of riffles in this one for a change. Also got the legs cut to length.
When I had a spare 5 minutes last Friday, I went to the hardware shop in town to get the 1/4 inch bolts & nuts I need to attach the legs. Alas, no such luck. Not a single 1/4 inch bolt of any length in stock, & none are going to be orderd until the middle of next month. So I have to try & find an hour of spare time tomorrow or Friday to go to the next town to get them. Once I've got those the build be progress much faster.

Thats great! I too live in one of those little towns that always run out of the one thing I need and have to wait a month also to get stock in. Or its a hour drive to the next densely populated area where they have all the big hardware warehouses. Can't wait to see it finished.

Yes, please keep us updated with your build. I fully understand how those situations where you have to wait or go an extra mile(s) to move things up a little further. Hope it turns great for your gold recovery.

Still haven't managed to get out of town. But now Christmas is over, I'm free to get to St Arnaud on Monday to buy what I need to finish this sluice.
