So Hey everyone my names russ I'm 28 I live in vic near the gold fields I've been panning for a fair few years now and have done well. I like the peacefulness of being out bush and the fun of finding new places to explore and seeing all the wildlife. So as you all would know jeez the water has been getting pretty scarce so I've just brought a gpx4500 it's a low hour machine it has a coiltek 18×12 coil a 12×4 nuggeteer coil and an older gp series 12inch dd so im hopefully going to be getting out a bit for a swing I've set it up on standard settings at the moment untill I am use to it then I'll prob have a go at different settings from what I've read there is a fair few lol so nice to meet you's and be a part of your forum no doubt there will be some knowledgeable folk on hear if I may ask a question could someone please tell me what your opinion on the best coil to use as an all rounder the 18×12/12×4 or the older 12inch dd being a gp series would that run ok on the 4500 or is it only good for a gp machine? Any advice would be much appreciated thanks russ

G'day Russ and welcome to the forum
I can never remember where the setting should be on the 4500, so I have a sheet from Coiltek that has the setting to drive the 4500 harder, It's in the shed with some other stuff so I just need to find it as soon as I have it I'll let you know.
As for your coils your not thinking SD series are you and yes you can use older coils from earlier GP's series on a GPX4500 I have but mostly mono's as I've disregarded all of my dd's the mono's have better depth so go your mono's, hope that helps you out a little.
These day's I'm using a GPX5000 and my 4500's a back up regards Harry

Hi harry thanks for the welcome im a bit unsure of the settings I've been out the last few days the first day it was really good nice smooth threshold tone last two days I played with the settings and it ran really unstable so it's back to the factory settings for now lol I'm in the process of reading the manual but it's a bit hard to wrap my head around as I'm a complete novice but thank you for your offer of letting me know some good settings to try. As for the coils again im not sure on them as I brought it second hand and it's just what it came with so I'm not sure on what series they are from it says on the coiltek one it's a 470x300(mm) gold stalker and it's a cream color then the second one is a white round coil either 11or12 inch and it just says gp series on it in a blue oval and the third is a small long coil that says its a nuggeteer coil. Any way so im slowly getting use to it im having trouble with distinguishing ground noise from deep targets as when I swing it sorta is unstable and the threshold is constantly warbling I have managed a few bits of lead from about just under a foot deep so I was happy with that as I've been told that lead is supposed to sound similar to gold? But I figure it's going to take time to get use to it so perseverance is the key no gold yet but I didn't expect to find any anytime soon as im only just learning anyway thanks again for the welcome cheers russ
