Hi , Stoney here, Having lived in the NE for 50 years and prospected the rivers and streams for 30 i nowdays turn my time to photo recording the history left by the miners. Its probably just as tough as looking for that elusive new spot to sample , hours of walking in tough country sometimes you get a reward most times the history is long gone. Over the years i have located some remarkable sites, deep within hidden valleys that still looked like the miners had just left from the days shift Old timber doors still closed on the entrance, rows of ore carts waiting to be filled, candles half burnt resting in there cradle or a rock drill rusting away inits hole waiting its operater to return. Dont get me wrong , i still love the color hunt and have a few spots on my gps i vow to return to , but the thought of lugging sluce, shovel pump and hoses to my awaiting location, gives way to my trusty camera, gps and head lamp as an easier option . For the last 10 years my gold has come from digital format .
Happy prospecting to all, Stoney , Glenrowan, Vic

Hi Stoney, Welcome to the forum, I imagine that you would have some interesting pictures of what you have seen out there over the years. to Some of the old machinery etc is quite fasinating to see how the old timers won their gold and I doubt if most of us these days would bother to put in the effort that they did. G'day stoney & welcome to the forum. As rowdy said, you must have a lot of interesting photos of machinery the old timers left behind. There's a few relics left around my neck of the woods, but no where near as much as in the north east. The majority of all you see in the north west corner of the golden triangle are miners hut ruins & puddlers, & most of those are in very poor condition.

Hi Stoney & welcome mate. I to love the history of the goldfields and go out looking for the lost past. But I still prospect as well, mainly with a detector these days more so than a H/B, I live in the G/T and not much water around for High Banking. But mate doing what you are doing with a camera and finding those old mine sites and recording our history, to me that would be treasure on it's own. Stoney I would love to see some of your photo's and I'm sure that others here would love to as well. So mate would you mind sharing with us some of your adventures with the camera. It would give us all another insight in the history of the goldfields. nugget893
