G'day everyone. Just moved to Tumbarumba from America (Washington State). While searching gold, gem, and treasure hunting options around the area, I read lots of posts on the forum --very entertaining and informative. Looking forward to joining the discussions when time permits, but I'll hopefully have my feet wet in creeks most of the time! (I have a wife and kids so probably not as much as I like anyway!) Any pointers for the local area would much appreciated.

Hi bt, There is a member [ Donny brook ] who lives in Tumbarumba, he has not been on the forum for a month or so, but has had experience in the hobby, and when the locals hear that you have a interest they will all have a spot for you to check out, there a friendly bunch up that way, the place has a good history of gold, so it is there some where. Hope you brought your jumper with you, it can get a little chilly latter in the year. Also there is a place near there called Aderlong, I think it is nnw of you, a nice creek, and a good history for gold. I will let donnybrook know to watch out for you, when he is next on line, good luck and hope you enjoy the forum. Lab

Hi bt.
Welcome to the AGP forum and welcome to Oz.
Tumbarumba's a great place, was born and raised not far from Tumba, know the area very well. As Labrador said, Donnybrook will be a great person to meet up with, really nice guy and a very experienced prospector. There are plenty of places to explore and fossick down that way. I now live in Canberra and don't get the chance to get down there very often anymore.
Good luck with the Gem and gold hunting.
Jeff

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll keep a lookout for Donnybrook around the forum.
Thanks for the Reedy creek invite Phillip, I might take you up on that...aside from a pan and shovel at present, I come fully equipped with a strong back and a weak mind.
Labrador, what's a good information source for finding public areas to fossick along Adelong creek? It would be great to break up those wagga shopping trips with a prospecting layover. Not knowing where/how to find areas open to the public is my biggest hangup right now. So far this forum has been a great start.
I'll let y'all know when I get my feet wet locally... I did find a nice brass military button already with the metal detector though...along with a 1920's penny and half-penny, and a tiny little silver three pence (not to mention tons of pull tabs, screw tops, and about $25 in coin and a few trinkets.)
