Travelled to Yambula with my son today Thought we would have a go in the wallagaraugh river, on arrival i found some good crevices and sink holes, which had plenty of colour in them I had been there an hour and was about to set up my sleuce when the forestry turned up, they informed me that i couldn't sleuce on the river at all and i should check out the fossiking maps available , they also said there was a lot of illegal fossiking going on there. I checked the maps out and by the look of it they don't want u in there Does any one else know of other spots on this river, as it looks a very promising area I did see some photo's on this forum from other guys which have done some work in there before Anyway had a good day and found some good colour while i was in there Cheers simon

Hi Simon.
I am not familiar with that area. BUT this brings up a topic that is becoming very real. NSW Resources and Energy are currently having a big push to have Highbankers and the likes banned in this State.
The ONLY possibility we have to reverse this, is to get the numbers of our lobby group; NAPFA, up. If you are not yet a member, may I suggest joining. This crap has to be stopped. Digging for Gold and Gems is a hobby for 99% of all fossickers and prospectors, it's a hobby that is about to get canned. Help us all out by joining NAPFA.

Hi Simon. Joining is pretty simple. Visit the NAPFA website and you can join from there. www.napfa.netJust looking at a map of the area and it appears as though most of the Wallagaraugh river flows through State Forest. Do you have Forestry Permit for fossicking? Jeff

Yep got the permit, he classed both sides of the river as forna reserve, something like that. One of the guys on the forum said he goes in there, Redmanti, by the photo"s he was in the same place as me

I am known as Tathradj on an other forum and I can say that I stuffed up at Yambulla by the bridge. Last time I was there I cleaned the area up a bit and will not prospect there again. I though I was just above the border of the flora reserve but it goes right up to and past the bridge to the north. There are plenty of other places to go down there. Just do a bit of research. The river for aprox 100 meters each side is a flora anfd fauna reserve. Same up on the Cope where all the mines are. For your inf, www.forestrycorporation.com.au/visit/activities/fossicking Yambulla is a big State Forrest. Doug

Thanks Spin.
Know you well from PA. That is very good and helpful info. All that I know of the area is that the crown land ends a few hundred meters downstream from the crossing on Allan Brook road. Knew it is a huge State Forest area but never knew about the Fauna Reserve. I have never been fossicking in that area. Thanks for the info.
