Got out to Oallen early this morning and it was raining, it rained nearly all day, but that didn't make the day miserable in fact it was a good day. Made a new hopper for the Goldwell HB and no amount of rain was going to stop me testing it. (Sluice with original hopper, way too short for serious shovels.) (Sluice with new hopper, twice the length of the original) Sluice box showing vortex's and black sand New hopper. Close up of vortex, heaps of black sand. Cleanup time tomorrow, expecting around +1.5g, get a pic up after it's all cleaned up. Have a great day people. Jeff

Looking good Jeff, glad to hear the rain didn't wash you out. Sorry I could not get away, still too much to do after being away for a week.

Looks great Jeffu, much more volume. Getting numbers like you are - I see why you'd want to get the entire shovel in -and a few loads. That's an interesting classifier at the end and something I'd like to get hold of. It looks like something you'd see around fryers or ovens yes?

Hi Ann.
The screen mesh is 5mm woven stainless. Can't remember where I got it, had it a long time.

Results for the Oallen outing quite surprised me. I had expected over 1.5g, particularly after the 1.4 I got last outing, I would have bet my left ...... on it. After running it all through the blue bowl I only ended up with 1.21g. My only explanation is that the previous outing must have been slightly chunkier. The pics show the blue bowl with the +50 mesh material.

How did the blue bowl run for you? As you have photos, ill take it that its still in one piece and not in the river Still a solid result even if a little light.

Ian, LOL No, it's not floating down the Tumut river.
Quite surprised actually, much better than the original. My first one was about 25 years ago, it was metal, rounded edges and no leveling legs. The new one seems much better made even though it is plastic.
Guess I'll get better using it with more experience. There was still a bit of fine gold in the tailings, haven't got around to try and get it out yet. Jeff
