Climbed all over the dredge a couple of years ago. Would loved to have been around when it was operating. Pity it couldn't be fully restored, would make it an even greater tourist attraction.

Thanks for the info M&M, I had a climb over it when I was there a couple of years ago as well, I was hopping they forgot to clean it out last time it was used, but no. I bet it made lots of noise, when it was running, I was suprised to see it was not the only one like it, I have see 2 others simila, in books. It will be a big day for Eldroado, hope they rember to water the horse. Lab

I was friends with one of the blokes who worked on the dredge in it's operating heyday, who passed on quite a few years ago. He told me it was so noisy it could be heard in the town from where ever it was working in the area.
As for doing it up, a committee of some of the townspeople was formed some years ago who were going to try & raise the funds to do just that. I know it was going to cost many 10's of 1000's of dollars to restore it, but it never happened for some reason. The plan was to repair the damage to the pontoons & mount it on 2 concrete blocks that were just below the water, so the dredge looked like it was floating. Also, the inside was going to be fully restored & opened up for people to be able to walk around it. But it was never going to be operational again.
