Thanks Ann, that clay layer has quite a lot of material mixed in with it. I have always wondered whats underneath it in the way of material so I may get my chance finally to break through it now that my hole is big enough. Will let you know what I discover. Cheers madhatter, yeah mate persist, persist, persist.....always take the path of least resistance. lol

Arthur, every peice is getting you closer, I found it interesting that you got less in such a short distance, and as you moved you were able to tell, there was better pickings. also now your getting in to the clay I am interested to see how you find dealing with it. The deeper you dig the more exciting it gets. I hope you find a piece the size of a golf ball or better next trip. your post is better than watching foot ball on the week end.

Because it is still a new creek to me and I have taken up advice from others who know it well, it wouldn't come as any shock that the best Gold I am leaving for now. The reason because I like to do things efficiently. The best advice given was remember the gravels where the best Gold is because the creek will keep producing when you find exactly the same gravels. I kind of like the glass theory mind you, have had good results when sieve has glass in it. The clay is good, first 2 inches is full of material after that it is just soft clay and I am going to go deeper and deeper because I want to know what the old timers and dredgers missed. Cheers Arthur
