Due to the weather i had a bit of a play at setting up my grinder and 10" saw. Don't have a permanent set up yet, so it all unbolts to move around. Just need to figure out something to feed water to the grinders. Hose works, but too much flow. Will look into a bucket gravity feed for now.

G'day Harry, it is good to finally get everything mounted, but i still feel like i am a long way from being ready.... Cut a stone for a bit of a test. I had set the motor up from the 12" saw and had a lot of problems, it may have just been the belt was too loose, but the new motor worked a treat. Now i need to make a hood or a lid for it as i had oil flying everywhere This was the little bit of rhyolite i cut for a test.

Thanks for the great posts Shivan.
Always been interested in tumbled and cut stones. Wish I was a bit younger and had the time to give it a go.

No worries Ric, i love seeing other peoples setups and stones. It can be frustrating figuring out how to start off, so hopefully it will be of help to someone.

Made up a small perspex hood for the saw and it all works a treat now. Just figured out that i have mounted the grinder on the wrong side though, as i do not have access to the side polishing plate the way i have set it up.

Hey Ian, would a drip system similar to the garden micro drippers work for your water supply? How much water do you need for the saw? This is great having you sort out all the problems, when I finally get my gear, you will have all the answers Brilliant Jeff

Jeff the grinders have taps on them, so just a pipe from a bucket will do the trick. I just couldn't close the taps at all when i had the garden hose on it as i didn't want back pressure to push the hose off, as i had no clamp for it and didn't want the motor wet. Just need a tap for the bucket and some hose an i will be good i think.

Don't know where my post on that went. I'll cut it short this time. I used the window washer tanks off a car, with with fish tank air flow taps as regulaters Flying Scott

Have been having some fun cutting open a few rocks to see whats inside. Have had a couple of very nice looking bits that i will try and slab do some cabbing with. Others have been a bit of a let down, but they still look nice on the garden. I probably should have wet them as the photos don't really do them much justice.

The old home made faceting machine i first brought i have been using as a flat lap. Its not too bad for smaller pieces and the flats on cabs, but cant do anything sizeable on it. Most of the stones i have been cutting are from Kangaroo Valley so i hope to be able to get a bit of cabbing material, am trying a few now to see how they come out. A lot of the stuff is too black, sandy or fractured, but some of the stuff (like in the photo above) looks great. Should have wet it before i took the photos.
