Hi folks John here from Batemans Bay. Just introducing myself hope to learn from your Forum and if anybody from Batemans Bay wants to head out for a search. My wife and I are very keen to learn. We don't own a metal detector yet, we have been hiring one from date detector den.

G'day John and welcome to the forum. We are from Nowra and have headed down your way a few times for a swing in the past, though have not had much luck beside lead i have seen some nice nuggets come from around your area. I would recommend getting a state forest fossicking permit as most of the old mines are in state forest around there. You can do it online, but there was a state forest office in Batemans Bay and may be easier to just do it face to face.
If you are looking for spots to try let me know. What detector have you been hiring?

What detector have you been hiring? Giday Shivan. Yep got the forest fossicking permit, Lee was very helpful. We hired the 4500 as the 2300 was taken. I found the 4500 easy to learn (after a few videos) and we set off. We had previously checked out a few mines just south of Batemans Bay off Lattice point rd & Runniford rd. We decided to check out the Waterfall creek tunnel - Loxtons Tunnel. The name sounded great but the only gold found was xxxx Gold and a lot of old holes. We also dug up a lot of bullet casings. So we then headed down to the dry creek bed. Took a couple of samples for panning but nothing yet. I'm open to any suggestions to try.

I would recommend having a look in the gullies running down from the old bimimbie mine, there are probably a lot of other places to try but we had a lot of problems with overgrown sites. I have seen some gold that has come from around the bimimbie site though. Others have talked about keeping an eye for quartz blows across the road and tracks and following and detecting these, though again we did not have much luck doing this.

Others have talked about keeping an eye for quartz blows across the road and tracks and following and detecting these, though again we did not have much luck doing this. We have been working our way down the coast the last few weekends. We got as close to shamrock mine as we could drive. It's close to bimimbie. We had started at Mogo creek that day and found a lot tinny tec screws. We even found one under a rock in the middle of the gully, thought it was the real thing as we couldn't find it in the scoop until the last handful. It was just the head of a tec screw. I felt a little set up as someone may of placed this here to slow us down. It was getting late so we didn't venture too far in that area. The area is very heavily overgrown. We did manage to stumble on a quartz reef at a forest clearing earlier in the day. We meet a nice couple out scanning that area. We had a chat about detecting & he showed me a mining map on his mobile phone and this quartz reef was marked on his map. Cleared forest areas are a lot easier to walk / drive threw but I guess can be popular areas too.

Hi Ignas I do have a casual job that has me on call on top of my roster. So planning is a little tricky. But if you want give me heads up (here) & I may be able to show you a few local areas. I haven't found much gold yet & should get a gold monster soon. We have been hiring detectors in town. I have a sleuth I'm keen to run too.

Thanks John,
I'll PM you when I work out how. s long as it's easier than working out how to use a detector I should have it covered.
Cheers
