Today I was given the web address of your forum by management and basically joined within hours . A brief history , I have been fossicking for 50 years and detecting Golden Triangle since 1979 . Over the years fell in love with the area and vowed to retire in Dunolly after working life . Sold our Hotel in South Australia and was over the border in 48 hours looking for a home . Bought in Dunolly in December 2014 and its an absolute joy to wake up in an old gold mining town surrounded by State Forests . I mentioned to management today I was increasing my gold hunting to alluvial gold that my SDC can't find , and consequently he suggested this forum . Hoping to have an enjoyable time on your site . Jenny and I are PMAV members ( Central Branch ) and GPAA in USA .
Cheers goldrat

Welcome to the forum goldrat. Sounds like you have a fair bit of experience, have you had much luck over the years? Plenty of good info on the site for alluvial prospecting and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks shivan for your welcome , micro gold recovery is not my strongest point and later I will seek help . As to much luck with my past detecting , most was done in the early 80's with a Garret Deep Seeker and a Ground Hog VLF . Looking back with no help with training courses and coming from South Australia local knowledge was nil , but besides gold I was well rewarded . A hunt to me was driving over ( 7 hours ) detecting 1 day and then 7 hours home . Must have been younger and sillier In brief about 600 coins ( including 50+ tokens , 40 silvers including 1 groat plenty of poor bling including 1 necklace ) I think my most important 1st gold find has a lot of importance today . Every forum has post's that mention there's no gold left in ABC gully . The response always is "you don't get it all" So here goes , 1981 staying at Dunolly Caravan Park about 15 trips over the border and no gold . Befriended by a Melbourne resident living full time in park , drinking beer around the park fire one night he said , Peter you know the diggings but do you know what gold bearing ground looks like . answer no . OK take you out tomorrow to a patch that I have found 22oz and have stripped of gold . Next day at the spot he said this is the type of ground you look for . We started detecting and I bagged a 7 grammer 1/2 inch deep within 2 minutes . To this day it's my biggest piece found in a small thrashed area . ( sorry Mal if you read this story ) Cheers goldrat
