Hi everyone, great to join...currently camping at Eldorado ready for a big day of digging and panning tomorrow with 2 of my 3 boys..middle child and mum are happily having pizza at home...I have read on several forums that detecting around here is no good just wondering if this is true as we had a scout around today and some as the ground in the hills looks very similar to Dunolly/Maryborough...

Hi Aurum79 and welcome to the site mate. I have run a detector around the Eldorado area and I can say I have not found any gold except with a pan. But I have found coins, specially a half English Sovereign dated 1852 in great condition. And next to that an old English Shilling dated 1848. So there are finds to be had but I don't think you will get on to any gold as it is very fine up that way.It also depends on the type of detector being used as well. nugget893

Cheers, thanks...home now, found a nice crevice just wide enough for the spade to fit in, still going at full depth with a long handle spade dozen or so specs in each pan but didn't really increase in size..Could believe it was/is that deep as half a mtr away bedrock the whole way across the creek. The gold coming out of my hole was the same size as if I scraped the top of the bedrock 2 inches down. I have been going to Eldorado now for about 4 years and each time I go I learn something new but always have more questions than answers..

G'day aurum79 & welcome to the forum. Yes, the gold is very small all through the creek. Glad to see someone else having fun finding gold there.
