In March 2017 the Andrews Government, in conjunction with the Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, asked VEAC (Victorian Environmental Assessment Council) to look into “Public Land Access” within the Western Regions of Victoria. Responding to calls from the community to review Public Land within the region. This has not been done since the 1980’s These regions include, Mount Cole State Forest, The Pyrenees Rangers State Forest, Wellford State Forest and the Wombat State Forest. A total of 64,082 Hectares.
There has been protest rallies happening in Maryborough and Beaufort. Our next one is in Avoca. Then onto Bendigo. The big one will be in the city on the steps of Parliament House on August the 8th. at 11pm. All to try and stop this from happening to our State Forests.
The second VEAC report finding should come out later this week or early next week with more info. But if these State Forests do become State or National Park, it will not only restrict or even ban prospecting but all effect other bush users as well. Including small towns in the region that rely on the income from these user groups, just to survive.
