The site is only as good as the members and their willingness to post constructive and interesting posts. Unfortunately I have been unable to get out and try to find a few specks. I hope that may change soon and I will be able to share it with the members of the site. In the meantime I'll try not to complain about my predicament and hopefully be out there finding the good stuff. Rowdy

There's a lot of useful information deep in the conversation threads. That sort of thing doesn't age.
However, it does remind me that I'm sitting on a pile of untold personal fossicking trip stories and observations that really should be shared!

I wish I had something to contribute by way of recent trips etc. But, I do not mind a challenge, so let's see what I can come up with.

I do check here every week or so. Perhaps I need to post some of my reminiscence. But the best bits were 20 + years ago when I used detectors, wheels, shakers, dredges, and not to mention womans panties. Some of these posts were not accepted by admin Some of my very early posts were vigorously contested. Not that worried me. My skin is thicker than a dredge carpet. Flying Scott

Been too cold here to get out there. Even the dirt is too cold. Last bit of gold gotten for the season was when I stopped at an Omeo rest area on the way home from the coast early June. I wandered down to the mountain stream, knelt down and plucked this little 0.07gm picker off the bottom of a crack with a stick. My non golding travel companion was very impressed at my 'skill ' and eagle eye. (absolute sheer fluke off course 🤣 )

At this time of year when it's so cold, You just walk up the creek pulling up tussicks of grass and wash the roots. You will be amazed what you will find. Flying Scott

I have read 'Scotty's comment, and it's true. I am equally guilty for not posting. So here I go, each week I will post something, starting NOW. Don't know what. But let's get controversial, and argue, that'll stir things up. And I know how you all react to anything unconventional, I've been there - heading off now to place a comment in 'river, panning, etc sect.

Next week I'm visiting Uralla (NSW) to do some fossicking for gold and gems. I'll be testing my sluice's new dream mat as well as some hand-built equipment.
One other item I'll be playing with is a small camera with a waterproof optical fibre cable tipped with a light and lens. I'm hoping it will be handy for looking in small crevices and under rocky ledges in the water.
It's going to be cold, but at least that means the snakes will be slower than last time I was up there. Expect an interesting report and plenty of pictures.

Are you heading to Wooldridge? I didn't find anything when last there. Another 2 blokes were sluicing but they gave up quicker than I did. I'll be interested to hear how you go. All the best, it will be freezing cold, but I hope you have a great time.

Yes, Wooldridge. There's not much to find close to the camping grounds, likely due to the amount of deep sand and that the gold found is so small (flour gold) and mobile. You have to get into the rocks and tricky patches of terrain that act as traps, and employ as much thought, curiosity, and testing as actual muscle. Each time I visit I improve my techniques (and results) for that particular area. There are some locals who have done quite well at the reserve. For some examples of my experiences there, have a look in the Photos section. The photos of panned-down heavy material illustrate what a good patch should contain: alluvialgprospectors.proboards.com/thread/6393/uralla-nundle-november-2013alluvialgprospectors.proboards.com/thread/6625/uralla-april-2014(BTW, my image hosting service has watermarked the photos. I'll look into fixing that issue soon)

Thanks for that. I should seriously think about a revisit. Look forward to the results of your latest visit.
